History

Les Ateliers de Tertre was founded in 1968 as a non-profit-making organisation by a group of relatives and friends of disabled people, looking after their children on a daily basis and giving them self-esteem through work. The project soon attracted the support of the Mons Rotary and Lion's Club. Several members of the Lion's Club are now part of our Board of Administration

The Ateliers was originally based in a large disused school in Mons. The growth in our business required larger premises and, in 1973, the Board of Administration decided to acquire buildings owned by Charbonnages de Tertre, which had closed down. Growth has continued since the acquisition and more land has been bought and buildings constructed. The company now employs 140 persons on land of 7.5 hectares with 10,000 m2 of buildings.
